September 14, 2011 – Rick Gavin, CPA, CCIFP and Partner at Grassi & Co., was recently named as a member of Long Island Business News’ “50 or so Around 50 Class of 2011.” Honorees in this program include individuals and entrepreneurs from many different professions and industries across Long Island, including professional services, healthcare, education, not-for-profit, and government. Rick joined Grassi & Co. in 1987 and became a partner in 1995. He is the treasurer for the firm and has been on the executive committee for over 10 years. Rick has extensive experience in operational reviews, business forecasting and projecting, business valuations, human resource advisory services, overhead analysis, internal control evaluations, and strategic tax planning. His industry expertise led to CIC Construction News inviting him to write a recurring article for them. Rick is a frequent lecturer on tax issues, financial statements, analytical reviews, fraud prevention, and internal control development. In addition to presenting to clients and contacts, Rick is an adjunct professor at Columbia University teaching a graduate level course in finance and accounting for construction contractors. He developed a class for Columbia Univeristy centered on a new Masters program in Construction Administration. Always looking to support his community, Rick has been on the Board of Directors at the Family Service League (a non-sectarian human services organization established in 1926 to address the issues of child welfare, unemployment and poverty) for the past 10 years and was recently asked to lead their M&A initiative. Rick just finished serving a three-year term as Chairman of the Board. Before that he was Chairman-Elect for two years. He also served as Chairman of the Nominating Committee for three years and Treasurer for two years. In 2010, Rick was the honoree at the Family Service League golf outing which raised over $150,000. Rick is active in numerous industry trade organizations such as the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA), Long Island Contractors Association (LICA), and the Construction Industry Council (CIC). Rick is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA). He also serves as the chairman of the firm’s construction accounting committee and is a member of the tax committee. |
