Governor Murphy announced this afternoon that he will be signing an Executive Order to ban all non-essential construction projects in New Jersey as of 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2020.
Similar to New York State’s ban on non-essential construction during the COVID-19 pandemic, this Executive Order will not apply to essential construction projects, which include hospitals, schools, transportation, utilities, affordable housing, individual housing (if the jobsite can adhere to strict limits on the number of on-site workers), homeless shelters, emergency repairs, work needed to safely secure a construction site and other limited instances.
The Executive Order also includes stricter rules for retailers and new guidelines for warehouses and manufacturing facilities to promote greater social distancing measures and employee protection. More details can be found on New Jersey’s COVID-19 Information Hub.
